Laptop Overheating

Overheating laptop

Gaming desktops and all laptops are prone to overheating, which can both indicate and cause damage. Computers have fans to maintain optimal temperature, but dust and pet fur can clog the vents, causing components to overheat. We recommend doing cleaning at least every three years, and more often if you have pets or smoke in your house

What Causes Overheating?

Dust is a significant threat to your computer's performance and longevity. It leads to overheating and noise, which results in reduced lifespan and sometimes system crashes. These can be DIY if you have a desktop. It's harder to properly clean laptops, so bring it in.

Overheating is a big contributor to premature computer death. Some computer parts like the processor and graphics card run hot and need plenty of cooling to keep them working. You might not feel it from the outside, but internal components can rapidly build up heat that needs to go somewhere.

When your airflow vents get blocked with dust or pet hair, the temperature continues to increase until components literally bake themselves to failure. At set temperatures, the computer will automatically switch off to try and cool down, however, the more often this happens and the higher the temps, the more likely your computer is to die. This problem affects laptops much more than desktops. It's important to keep the vents clear!
